Reading at a young age makes you smarter

Reading at a young age makes you smarter.
Scientists have found that children who can read well by the age of seven are more intelligent in later years.

Better readers develop higher levels of verbal reasoning,
do better in non-verbal tests, are adept at spotting patterns, observing trends and completing pictures.

The study published in the Child Development journal also suggests that reading teaches young children to use their imagination which helps them think abstractly and rationally in fields such as mathematics, science and logic as a result of taking on the perspectives of fictional or historical characters, or imagining other worlds, times and scenarios.

Check out the full article HERE.

As wonderful and informational as this article is, they neglect to mention how much reading at a young age can really shape a child’s view of the world and themselves.
Reading opens their eyes to so many wonderful things.

Not too long ago one of my students read a story about the Icehotel in Sweden.  We couldn't get enough of the story!  We started Googling images of the hotel and talking about how cool it would be to sleep on a bed made of ice.  I told him that I’m putting a trip to this hotel on my Bucket List and he said he is too ;)

Another student read a story about snow.  Since he lives in Florida he didn’t know what snow was or how it felt. When I finished explaining it as best I could, he looked at me and said, “when I grow up, I want to go up north to see snow!”

Reading introduces students to new ideas and while this is helpful for school, it’s wonderful in life!
You have BIG dreams for your preschooler.  You want him or her to grow to be happy and healthy.  To feel confident about themselves and their abilities.  And to feel successful and significant in life.

Giving your child a strong academic head start fully prepares him or her for future success leading to a lifetime of advantages!

Dr. Suess put it perfectly, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

Beat Witching Hour!

I went home to Jersey for a little over two weeks to enjoy the holiday with family and friends.
I always enjoy my time home, but especially the time I get with my nieces!
(my oldest niece and I LOVE our trips to Starbucks for hot chocolate & cookies)

While home, I realized just how painful The Witching Hour really is!
My nieces would whine, cry, and run around.  I remember my sister looking at me and with exasperation in her voice, she simply said, “I just don’t want to be a mom right now.”  (she was kidding, of course ;))

You may be able to beat it with myON (and it’s FREE)!
Some of you may have already heard of myON.  If not, let me explain.

Your Child's Year To SHINE!

2015 was pretty AMAZING (check out our year in pictures HERE),
so I can’t wait to see what 2016 holds for Preschool Readers!

I recently stumbled upon an article entitled, 13 science-backed signs you're smarter than average.
They combed through decades of scientific research and highlighted 13 surprising signs of braininess for the article.

And what did they find?  You’re smarter than most if you learned to ready early!
Studies show that reading from an early age increases both verbal and nonverbal (e.g. reasoning) ability, as opposed to the other way around.
