... the newest member of our Preschool Readers family!
I’m excited to announce that Ashton Manis is now a Tampa Preschool Reading Specialist!
Ashton Manis is a passionate kindergarten teacher who is new to the Hillsborough County School District. She has been teaching for over six years. In that time, she has taught preschool and pre-kindergarten in New York City and first grade in Orlando. She received her Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education from the University of Central Florida in 2009 and her Masters in Early Childhood Special Education from New York University.
Fun Q & A with Ashton:
Q:When you were a child, what story did you love to read (or have read to you)? A: Winnie-the-Pooh.
Q: Now that you are an adult, what children’s book do you like and feel all kids should have on their bookshelf? A: I love all Dr. Seuss books. My students always get excited when I read them and most of the books are great for beginning readers.
Q:Why do you love reading? A:I love that reading can take you to a different place. It doesn’t matter what kind of day you’re having when you pick up a good book you can get lost in it and forget about all of life's distractions.
Q:Who is your favorite author? A:J.K. Rowling, I love her creativity.
Q:What is one word you would use to describe yourself as a preschooler? A:Attentive.
Q:Who was your favorite childhood teacher and why? A: Ms. Tedford, she made every day exciting and made learning fun and interactive.
Q: Why do you love teaching? A:My favorite thing about teaching is not knowing what the day will bring for my class and I. I can plan and prepare for the day but some days my students take the lesson in a completely different direction and sometimes the best lessons I’ve taught are when the students take the lead.
Q:Fill in the blank: If you really knew me, you'd know that… A: I love my two crazy dogs more than anything.
Happy reading, Lisa
