My favorite Back To School Book is The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn. When I was a kindergarten teacher, I read it every year on the first day of school. Chester, the main character, is a young raccoon who is nervous about going to school. His mother kisses his center palm and tells him that "whenever you feel lonely and need a little loving from home, just press your hand to your cheek and think, 'Mommy loves you. Mommy loves you.'" Chester is comforted and goes to school.
Since I know just how comforting a great Back To School book can be for a child, I thought I’d list a few for you.
